The left today calls themselves liberal, but they clearly aren’t.
Based on what Bari Weiss printed this morning, the majority of countries in Western Europe ban abortion on demand between 10-12 weeks. Most in the US could live with that. It’s is reasonable.
I was once much more pro-choice than I am today. Having children, and watching their development on a high definition ultrasound screen, made it impossible for be to ignore the humanity of even very young fetuses. Today I uncomfortably sit in a place of early choice (for bodily autonomy), but not ripping a living human apart limb by limb (it’s gruesome a cruel). It terrifies me that people are acting like the world is coming to an end if they can’t kill a 32 week healthy baby. What is wrong with them?
Your comments in this article are so well articulated overall. How can I believe a people who can’t even define woman remotely care about the most basic biological reality for women? How can people who by law let full grown men prance around Women’s private spaces naked - like in spas while they are naked and erect in front of young girls claim to care about privacy? Or let men into women’s prison where several female inmates have already been impregnated by their “woman” with a penis cellmates (with zero concern for exactly how consensual the sex producing the pregnancy actually was). How can the party of forced experimental vaccines claim bodily autonomy as a motivating factor in being pro-abortion?
Honestly, I’m terrified of the far left moving the needle even more from “abortion on demand at any point in pregnancy” (or post birth now in CA), which is already inhumane, to claiming “equity” or “climate change emergency” or some other narrative justifies the government or universities or employers being allowed to coerce abortions on those of us with “birthing bodies.” They certainly showed no restraint in requiring young people who didn’t need them who already had natural immunity to be coerced into THREE experimental mRNA shots with ease....................
I feel exactly the same way -- I would never have contemplated late-term bans before because I thought the pro-choice movement and liberal women had the wisdom to decide. Clearly, there is absolutely no wisdom here. The vaccine issue was such a deal-breaker for me. It's one thing to embrace the Covid vaccine itself, that's fine, that's up to every individual. But to demand I be barred from society because I *don't*? The loss of credibility here will never be overcome.
Dear NCmom, I enjoyed reading your comments. Herbert Marcuse and his Frankfurt School acolytes were among the first to realize that arguments based purely on materialism and economic factors would not bring about the desired revolution in Western societies, especially the US.
Understanding that US society was vulnerable due to its history of slavery, the Nihilists decided to hijack civil rights, gay rights, feminism, social justice, and climate change issues to destabilize American society in the hope of fomenting a revolution at some point in the future. These people then burrowed into the Democrat Party, Hollywood, media, and academia to spread their ideas among the masses. Along the way, they got an unexpected alliance from the transnational corporate class who had its own reason for wanting to weaken the nation state in favor of international institutions.
I would encourage you to read about the people funding the "trans" movement, the majority of whom are perverted old white billionaire males. Names such as Jennifer Pritzker (a man), George Soros, Jon Stryker, and Tim Gill are at the top of the list. The one you should pay most attention to is the founder of Sirius Radio, Martine Rothblatt (another man) who wrote a book titled "From Transgender to Transhuman." This book is considered "the Bible" of the trans movement. Not only does this evil man want to erase women, but he also wants to erase everything that makes us human. The Trans movement is one of the most evil projects conjured by sick minds!
I’ll look into that. Bill Gates is also a big trans movement funder. The trans movement is pure evil. A clear attempt to separate our reasoning from objective reality. Erasing women seems to be the bonus for them. Targeting children for genital mutilation operations and sterilization is pure evil. Whatever semantics gymnastics like “affirmative care” people use in a morally bankrupt attempt to justify it, the objective truth is they are advocating the mutilation of children’s genitals and known sterilizing of their reproductive organs via synthetic hormones. That’s only after the “temporary” puberty blockers permanently reduce the child’s intelligence.
What is so shocking is that what you are saying here isn't blindingly obvious to every person in the west right now! I think we just have to keep putting it in the bluntest of terms until people come back to their senses.
Absolutely spot on for every point, Jenny. The movement masquerading as the "liberal left" in Western countries is in fact the grotesque spawn of Nietzschean Nihilism filtered through Frankfurt School Critical Theory and Post-Modernist Deconstruction. The only goal of the Nihilist movement is the rejection of everything that came before. It is very sad that after thousands of years of bitter struggle, issues such as women's rights, sexual rights, civil rights, and equality between all human beings have been hijacked by the Nihilist movement.
As you made clear in this article, abortion rights in most industrialized nations are no longer about legal vs illegal but rather about how far into the pregnancy does a woman need a health related reason to terminate the child. In most European countries it is around 17 weeks. However, in the US, some jurisdictions like CA and Washington DC allow abortions right up to week 40 without cause. In Virginia, former Governor Ralph Northam had recently stated the following in January of 2019 about late term abortions:
“If a mother is in labor, I can tell you exactly what would happen. The infant would be delivered. The infant would be kept comfortable. The infant would be resuscitated if that’s what the mother and the family desired, and then a discussion would ensue between the physicians and the mother.”
From these statements we can infer that Nihilists cannot understand the difference between abortions and executions. Nihilists only push feminism to the extent that they can destroy families and traditional values. However, when a new movement comes along that is an anathema to clear distinctions in all human societies, such as the difference men and women, they are more than willing to trample all over women to antagonize supporters of accepted norms. So yes, "abortion rights" are just another tool for the Nihilist movement to attack long held beliefs among human beings in order to create a monstrous new world where ANYTHING goes!
Great comment. Based on Common Sense this morning, the vast majority of Western European countries ban abortion on demand somewhere between 10 and 12 weeks. 17 is an outlier on the later side.
M J Javani--the idea that a post-delivery infant can be legally killed in the United States, or anywhere, is one of the most horrifying things I've ever heard. After more than forty years, I still have regrets about my involvement in the decision to carry out a four-week abortion. I can't imagine the thinking of a parent who could have a full-term baby killed, or a doctor who could carry out the execution. It sounds like a nightmare from Dr. Mengele's laboratory.
Sometimes it's hard to look back on the decisions we make in our youth, isn't it? I am holding out some hope that the "perinatal" terminology in these ultra-permissive abortion laws is actually a mistake or something. I read the CA language, it was actually super unclear what it really meant.
Dear Cary, I'm so sorry to hear about the pain you went through!
The Nihilists talk about abortion as if it was going to the dentist to get your teeth cleaned. What's worse, Ralph Northam was a medical doctor who graduated from medical school, so he knew exactly what he was talking about when he made that statement. Northam is as close to Dr. Mengele as you can get in this world.
I highly recommend reading Tom Wolfe's analysis of Nihilist intellectuals. Specifically, when it comes to art and architecture. His commentary was what crystalized this concept for me.
Nihilists love and praise "abstract art" such as the works of Jackson Pollack or the "post-modernist architecture" of Frank Gehry, not because of their intrinsic value or their aesthetics. Nihilists push abstract art as the highest form of human achievement among the cognoscenti precisely because it is a rejection of everything that was considered beautiful from the Renaissance all the way through the late 19th Century.
Same goes with their opposition to religion. We are told that Christianity and Judaism are bad because they are based on "superstition" and "outdated values." Yet the Nihilists are eager to fall all over themselves in praise of the most barbaric traditions in the Islamic faith. For all these reasons, it's quite clear that Nihilism supports ANYTHING that is ugly and an insult to human decency.
I agree with all you've said, and thanks for your reply. I've read Wolfe's critique of modern architecture, "From Bauhaus to Our House". I'll have to read some of his other stuff regarding nihilism.
This is everything. Do not say my body my choice and tell me I have to be vaccinated. Don’t tell me my body my choice but say a man can say my body is the same as his. It’s not. My body is different. I can birth a child. I am a WOMAN!! Don’t take that from me.
Slightly OFF-TOPIC: I regularly read the Irish Time and particularly the comments section, from which it is not difficult to glean the degree to which the English are still by and large fiercely despised in Ireland ("Contaminated by Brexit and Racism", as one recent headline opined. A view contradicted by numerous studies, one even by the EU "Being Black in the EU", which proved the very opposite)
Despite the thousands of desperate women who over the years were forced to travel to England (mainly Liverpool) to have an abortion (which I fully supported), where they were (hopefully) treated with dignity and compassion, I have yet to read one word of gratitude from the Irish government or even from Irish feminists and pro-choice women's groups.
Why is that? Traditional Irish Anglophobia, a desire to bury the recent and inconvenient past? Or just ingratitude.
Well to be very fair, the Irish experience of the English is historically pretty awful. But no lefty Irish woman will ever give the UK any thanks now because Ireland is pretty woke-progressive and they seem to enjoy lording it over the "gammon" English. 🙄
Right. Well remind me to insult the next German I meet. After all, my grandfather lost a brother and a cousin during WWII in Italy.
So I suppose, by some absurd stretch of the wokeist imagination, I can still claim victimhood if I try hard enough; no matter that the postwar generations of Germans are just as responsible for the crimes of the Nazis as I am.
Well it works both ways: present-day English are not to be blamed for the colonial crimes in their country's history, but neither are they deserving of gratitude for allowing generations of wretched, impoverished Irish onto their shores, whether for abortions or to work as servants etc. And just as an aside, I was one of those Irish girls you reference, and I was not treated with dignity or compassion by the very English doctor who "treated" me. Quite the opposite actually. These things happen when a person is young and vulnerable, as most women and girls in that position were.
Anybody can have a simplistic view of abortion if the focus is solely on the mother or solely on the baby. The moral stance is authentic respect for both the mother and the baby. I am old enough to remember the "bad old days" when "unwed mothers" were looked down on with scorn by the casually judgmental. But abortion was not and is not a "solution".
The left today calls themselves liberal, but they clearly aren’t.
