Ok, so this postās headline *might* sound a tad fire-and-brimstone psycho, but hear me out.
First of all, I donāt mean physical weakness or moments of weakness. I mean weakness of the mind, the kind that leads otherwise good people to do shocking and unforgivable things.
I watched the documentary āAbducted in Plain Sightā this week. Woo boy. If you donāt already know, itās the story of a master predator who manages to infiltrate a very nice Utah family to such an extent that they give him unfettered access to their 12 year old daughter, with whom heās obsessed. He sleeps in her bed in her family home, he kidnaps her TWICE. He marries her in Mexico when she is 12 years old. How did he pull this off? By seducing both her parents, who then are so desperate to cover up their shame that they give in to his demands. The mother has a full blown affair with him AFTER he has kidnapped and married her barely pubescent daughter.
If that mother and father had just had the backbone to say, āI donāt give two shits if you tell the entire repressed Mormon town about our lurid sexscapades, you canāt sleep in our kidās bed,ā their daughter would have been spared years of rape, brainwashing, anguish and the total derailment of her childhood.
But the parents were weak. They let evil into their lives so as to avoid being shamed by their community. And while it sounds like Iām judging them (I definitely am) I also recognise that we all have the capacity to slide into depravity, but for the choices we make and the company we keep and the things we allow ourselves to fear. None of us is strong and wise every day. Every family, every person, encounters evil disguised as flattery, reward or recognition. Being an adult is knowing when to stand strong against it.
In the scale of consciousness thereās lower vibrations that one could call Evil, fear, shame, guilt, anger. The crossing point from negative to positive is courage, essentially taking charge of your life and being self responsible. After that much more pleasant things follow. The world needs more moral people with courage.
