To say that the American electoral process resembles a Banana Republic is to insult third-world elections. Pretend democracies around the world at least make an effort to force everyone to vote and wrap up their sham elections within a day. They then declare the pre-determined winner within hours so as not to make their citizens skeptical about their ability to run elections, since the people already know the system is rigged.
Not so in post-COVID America. Sometime around 2020, American elections transformed into a never ending process where the plebes get to vote (inside the comfort of home) around two months before "election day". This process often begins weeks before the voters can watch the candidates debate (a process that happens even in Iran) so that one political party has the opportunity to run candidates with significant mental impairments (dementia, strokes, the inability to speak).
Once election day is over, the outcome at the national level is not declared for at least five days, but usually longer. The best part of all this, in regions of the country where the race is particularly tight, after a week-long count and recount of ballots that never stop arriving, said party running mentally defective candidates is miraculously declared the winner of the previously mentioned tight races by the mainstream corporate media.
By all means Jenny, please feel free to have election fatigue like the rest of us!
Mail in ballots is a curse to elections. Unless you have a sever disability/serving abroad then you should have to vote in person. Voting in person should be a minimum to vote.
100% agree. If you care about a country, you should take the time to go to the polls (rain or sunshine) and vote. Voting while eating a hamburger and watching TV is not a sign of progress.
The one time I missed my opportunity to vote was when I was a surgical intern on every other night call (40 hours on, 8 off if lucky). I couldn't leave the hospital. Our district puts multiple voting machines downtown, but only 1 or 2 in the more affluent (read, conservative) suburbs. If I didn't vote early, I'd never make it to the ballot box because of these shenanigans. I do feel absentee ballots should NOT be sent without a request, and should be subject to verification and timely submission, but for some, it is the only way to exercise the right to vote.
Dear Sandy, thank you for all the long hours you put in to help patients, lots of respect for the medical profession!
What we are talking about here is the abuse of the electoral process by one political party that ALWAYS bends the rules to get its desired outcome. COVID was abused by said party to allow people to vote months in advance of an election, and to also allow votes to continue to come in after the deadline until the desired outcome was achieved. These are among the achievements of the "Establishment party" as there is no longer a Democrat and Republican party in America.
Since at least 2016, if not earlier, Wall Street, Silicon Valley, most billionaires, along with multi-national corporations have coalesced around the Democrat Party. This is in addition to Hollywood, media, and academia which had supported the Democrats since the 1960s. It is a union between finance and the "credentialed" class against anyone who believes in the concept of the nation state (groups that believe their interests are global and no longer national).
I strongly urge you to do research on this topic, the most affluent suburbs in America are no longer "conservative", they are almost ALL Democrat. Of the top 10 wealthiest congressional districts in the US, ALL of them are Democrat since 2018. This concentration of power under the umbrella of the Democrat party is an anomaly in US history and will lead to a beeline toward tyranny unless something changes.
There are many people (particularly many elderly) who care very deeply about their country but who find it difficult if not impossible to walk to their neighborhood polling place. It is cruel to punish them with an overbroad one size fits all policy. Mail in ballots are a necessity although major steps must be taken to curtail their abuse by leftist political hacks.
I would argue that it need not be a severe disability or serving abroad (a normal everyday disability or being out of town causes the same problems with getting to the polls) but there should be some official request on the voter's part for an absentee ballot when needed. The notion of mailing absentee ballots to everybody whether they plan on filling them out or not is a recipe for unscrupulous voter fraudsters to fill out their ballots and send them in by fraud.
The rigid conformity culture of leftists today is obvious to millions, but ossified hard-core leftists are fine with it. Many actually believe that they are brave, counter-cultural, heroic. Actually, they are pawns who obediently parrot whatever they are told to parrot by the latest leftist fad of the day. And, if they are busy parroting leftist talking points, they are not exploring the crucial (biblically derived) truths of life.
Ok Jenny, I found your substack accidentally a few weeks ago. I’ve been reading for free, but after reading this today, I’m all done with that. Subscription fee coming your way. The quality of your writing, the depth of your perspective... incredible. Thank you so much and keep it coming.
There is one thing about the election that the media is not reporting, and that is that turnout was almost 5% higher among Republicans than Democrats nationally here in the US. (I don't know diddly about the politics of Northern Ireland other than that there was strife between Catholics and Presbyterians at one time.)
In regard to women like Katey Herzog and Barri Weiss, both lesbians, back in the 80s TIME magazine devoted an issue to homosexuality. (TIME may have pulled that issue from their archives.) I well remember that they said that for young women, lesbianism is largely a political statement while for homosexual men, it is an urge. That probably explains why lesbians can't give up their left-wing politics.
If there's anything to be learned from the election, it's that Democrats will vote for Democrats regardless of how extreme they are. They've been fed so much political BS that they accept radicalism as normal. This is particularly true among blacks, who used to vote for Republicans until Democrats in the 60s came up with numerous give-away programs to attract them. Look at a political map of Mississippi - Democrats prevail in the heavily black counties. It's the same in Alabama and Georgia. Elsewhere, Democrats prevail in urban areas - period. In short, it's a war between urban America and the rest of the country except for a few counties dominated by blacks.
It sounds like what you are saying is that the "Right" are made up of more reasoned voters while the "Left" is made up of more tribal voters. Historically, "tribal" always wins unless there is a strong Rule of Law to sustain "reasoned". Well, Rule of Law is what we've been watching deteriorate over the last ten years. Rapidly. It's no wonder that tribal is winning.
"Dominant culture should remain normie, that is what is best for people’s psyches and for culture as a whole. And I say this as someone who has never lived a normie life. If you reach maturity, become experienced, and decide you are a freak, more power to you. "
One irony going on here is that a good deal of the enjoyment, the substance, and the actual structure of the non-conformist's Private Idaho paradoxically derives from a surrounding normie context. For that effect to be optimal, the normie context should be mainstream, which involves having social power, a barrier against which the 'freak' can be freaky by contrast. What Leftists are trying to do now at this historical moment (however long this has been going on) is normalize an incoherent centrifugal DeSadean disorder of the mind whose logic is ever voracious of pushing the envelope because having the power and being apparently batshit, they have lost a boundary to playfully violate. There's nothing left but pure violation. If no brakes are put on this process, I fully expect that normalization of sex in public, necrophilia, bestiality, and pedophilia is only a matter of time.
"It has always seemed obvious to me that the projection-heavy, judgmental, hysterical, mind-reading, grievance-nurturing, social justice left behaviour is in direct opposition to all principles of good mental health."
I don't know Jenny if you have encountered another type of Leftist as I have, who comes across as calm and rational, often armed with data and links etc., but once you start engaging them at length you realize it's a rabbit hole of sophistry taking advantage of complications and nuances. I've encountered this type many, many times over the past 20-odd years I've been banging my head against Leftists (for 19 years pre-Covid, it was mostly wrangling about the problem of Islam -- yet another issue they get grievously wrong).
It’s a replay of Mao’s brutal red guards (who quite quickly outran even his iron fisted control.) Playing the role of Mao this time around: the *old* left (those who used to fight-the-good-fight for poor and brutalized people (not “marginalized identities” who are anything but.) These people are self-appointed Queen-of-Hearts, screaming “off with their heads!”
I have a glimmer of hope developing, as these people are starting to “eat their own” - honest, sane liberals who have begun to notice and call-out the scam.
Bravo, Jenny. We must all speak out against this dangerous madness as much as possible.

Well said. I should have said my upper middle class working district (lots of Acuras and private school logos, but working moms and dads).

Please don't call them the liberal left. They are illiberal and ignorant.
