Dear liberals...we need to talk.
You are being used as ideological human shields. And the hour is late.
It has been a crazy week in news. Very little of it has been of comfort to those of us who fear that our freedoms and human patrimony itself are under threat.
So I feel driven to making a few blunt and (in some quarters) controversial statements. Lest anyone mistake me for a still-squishy liberal, I want to go on the record to say I am thoroughly red-pilled. Especially after what I have seen this week.
In the style of that yard sign that appeared everywhere after Trump’s election in 2016, I’m going to nail my colours to the mast.
In this Substack we believe:
Tucker Carlson is the most perceptive, intelligent broadcaster today
Donald Trump is far less corrupt and dangerous than Joe Biden
Steve Bannon is just a Reagan Democrat, not the second coming of Joseph Goebbels
MAGA is the the 21st version of the early 20th century labour movement, not the Brown Shirts
Anti-vaxxers are probably right about everything
Conspiracy theorists should be listened to
Traditional Catholics are not domestic terrorists
Muslim parents are right to protest LGBT lessons in schools
January 6 was a fed-surrection
Giorgia Meloni is the most interesting politician in Europe and the left is angry because she sounds more left-wing than they do
Viktor Orban is correct about protecting traditional Christian values
Look liberals, I’m just trying to muddle through this weapons-grade propaganda war like everyone else here. So I suppose I should say: I do not wholeheartedly support, love, or uncritically endorse all of these people. I don’t know if everything they say is true, or what their secret motivations are. I am not omniscient. I cannot see into people’s hearts. But I have noticed that these people share very important information, and stand up for certain values that I believe are worth standing up for. Values that everyone I once respected on “my” side has abandoned.
Of course, I do not demand that every person reading this agree with me. The “we” in my “in this Substack, we believe” statement is tongue-in-cheek. But I am saying that if you are not approaching these figures with a truly open mind, then you are likely misinformed.
The names above tend to work magical powers on people who still have some attachment to the idea of being liberal-left — it sends a shockwave through them and they respond with anger. It’s happened to me on multiple occasions, and I have never enjoyed it. But I’m willing to risk the goodwill of some of my more liberal readers because we have reached emergency level. A full-scale Cultural Revolution is well underway, if not already lost, and if you still have even one iota of faith left in outlets like The New Yorker, NPR, the Washington Post, the BBC, etc to tell you what is really going on, you probably don’t realise how serious this moment is. Just because they haven’t sent out a press release confirming the takeover to The New York Times, doesn’t mean it isn’t happening.
Here are just a few recent examples of the threat environment we are currently living in. Here in the United Kingdom, this week the NHS released guidance stating that patients “may be guilty of discrimination if they refuse the care of a transgender medic.” The 97 page policy was written “in partnership” with the LGBT Foundation, which to my knowledge is not in the business of medical or clinical oversight. Even patients with dementia “should still be challenged” and relatives “may be removed from the premises” if they express misgivings about a transgender carer. Given what we know about sexual predators taking on transgender identities in order to get access to vulnerable targets, this amounts to a molester’s charter — right here in our liberal triumph of a health service. It’s dystopian.
Across the pond in Idaho, hardly a bastion of left-wing activism, a young man was barred from walking at his college graduation, and then had a job offer from the fire service (where he was willing to put his life at risk to fight wildfires) rescinded, after he said there were only two genders.
In Canada — the same country that de-banked working class protestors and has state-sanctioned killing of poor people, a high school student at a Catholic school was arrested after saying — you guessed it — there are only two sexes.
And of course, the million pound gorilla in the room: the federal indictment of Donald Trump for sloppy paperwork management, on the same day that Congressional Republicans were shown a document indicating President Joe Biden, when he was vice-president, was “involved in a $5 million criminal bribery scheme with a foreign national in exchange for influence over policy decisions.” Elsewhere, it was reported that the country in question was Ukraine, where Biden’s party is now overseeing the disbursement of billions of American taxpayer dollars to keep a war going that has killed thousands upon thousands of Ukrainians, and brought us closer to nuclear war than we have been in half a century. In normal times, Trump showing off sensitive documents or leaving them in a public ballroom would be a serious matter. In the context of Biden’s alleged actions and the wider malfeasance of the Democratic Party, the attack on Trump - as unpalatable and unprofessional as he may be - is an attack on the republic.
Yet even this huge story, in the bigger scheme of things, is just a sideshow. Because the real problem is a communist-corporatist ideology that is spearheading an attack on personal sovereignty, dignity, and property across the globe. And its religion is an LGBT (emphasis on the T) moral order which requires the destruction of childhood innocence, familial rights and traditional sexual morality, in order to produce the kind of drug- addled, porn-addicted, neutered (quite literally) populace that will submit to sci-fi levels of control.
If my use of the word communist freaks you out, I understand. I too was raised to believe that communists weren’t quite as bad as fascists. I was raised in a world where the Bella Ciao partisans and the French Resistance and Spanish Civil War International Brigade were folk heroes. I grew up going to delightful village festivals in the Italian countryside run by local communist and socialist parties, and venerating the American left that was blacklisted by McCarthyism. I understand those positive associations. But in 2023, if the term anti-communist immediately puts you in mind of the baddies of the 20th century like the Nicaraguan Contras, Pinochet, Franco, Hitler, Mussolini, you should update your terms of reference. Or simply use the word totalitarian instead.
The public figures drawing attention to this dire reality are the bêtes noir I mention above. And it just so happens that those names have been rendered utterly toxic to large swaths of otherwise well-meaning people who — if told these things by anyone else — would be horrified and radicalised against the powers that be.
Liberals: the time for being afraid to align yourself with the “right-wing” is over. The hour is late.
Liberals: please recognise the totalitarian bad actors who are nested your midst.
Liberals: you are being used as ideological human shields, which means — unfortunately — that it is not really possible to be liberal right now. Because to be liberal right now means you are giving tacit approval to the worst excesses and crimes of the far-left fascists, aka communists.
The liberals who believe US is doing a good thing by exporting human rights overseas in the form of the rainbow flag and the rights of women and girls, need to square that with the fact that in the US and the UK, women are being raped in prison by male sex offenders, put there by the government. That homeless women are being forced to strip naked in front of mentally ill men. The most vulnerable women in our society are being tortured psychologically and physically by perverts and sex criminals, and gay boys are being pushed to castrate themselves. So explain to me, liberal friends, how we are better than Iran or Afghanistan? Do you think we have any moral authority to preach to Muslim countries about the education of girls, when girls in America schools are forced to share changing rooms with fetishistic men?
The liberals who think Bud Light/Patagonia/Nike/Target were just examples of poor marketing judgement and bad professional calls, are dangerously naive. Those companies do not serve customers or shareholders any longer. They now serve the new master, ESG. And eventually, ESG will have the power to rule over your bank account, your credit report, and your social life.
The liberals who fret over Tucker, or Roe v Wade, or Jan. 6 — you are missing the point. You are dangerously naive. These are being used as wedges to prevent the coalescing of a true, democratic, human-friendly movement.
You can be liberal in a time of peace, you can be conservative in a time of peace, you can be a Democrat in a time of peace, you can be a Republican in a time of peace. You can be a left-leaning populist or a right-leaning populist, in a time of peace. You can be anything you want, in a time of peace. But what we need to be now is anti-communist, first and foremost. Then we need to support actions like the the Montana Attorney General just took, suing over the investment of taxpayer dollars into ESG.
We must have a coalition of the sane, made up of people of all political stripes, that respects individual rights, protects freedom of thought and celebrates the best of the western tradition. We need to coalesce around the idea that we will not accept a fusion of communism with corporatism and global state control, we will not accept the destruction of our children and young people and the decimation of our privacy. Before it is too late.
Jenny Holland I commend you from the bottom of my heart, and soul. This is the most genteel, respectful, informative piece on the subject to date. I herald from the deep liberal conclave of the NE United States, born & raised in that culture but something has changed & I've had to walk away from friends and family wholly captured by this emerging ideology. Inline with Mattias Desmet, you've nailed it. Thank you for speaking up.
