I think we may be in that phase in the U.S. right now. Much of Trump's promised reform is being bogged down, and in some cases completely blocked, not only by the ever-escalating hysteria of the left, but by activist judges with too much power, and by phony Republicans in Congress who don't really want change.
It's so sad that the troubles in Northern Ireland have often been considered religious in nature. It was a whole lot more complicated than that and included issues of oppression, class pridefulness, reactive resentment, etc. This all had the effect of hardening denominational rigidities which is understandable in the circumstances but not what Christianity is all about since the focus should be on Jesus Christ.
