Unfortunately now Roisin has apologised to the TRAs for any upset caused. I am so disappointed in people who stand up for the truth and children’s safety and then back down when threatened by the mob.

I hear ya about the disappointment. In this case, though, I choose to think that episode was worth it as it highlighted the insanity.

Speaking of bullies, from everything I have experienced and witnessed thus far, the climate change agenda is going to be Covid 2.0 as far as people's behavior. Question your smart thermostat, and they are going to come out of the woodwork, calling you a believer in "lizard people" or a "Q" follower or painting you as selfish and unwilling to do your part. Get ready. The viciousness of people and their inability to have dialogues about these issues is something to behold. In my personal life, a couple of these people are school teachers. If I had kids, I would be homeschooling, I'll tell you that.

If I were in the US I would definitely be homeschooling. So far where we are, it's not as bad. Hell, no schooling would be better than what kids are getting in the US.

Every state is different in the US. I would be out of public school

in California or Oregon but Texas does a good job of teaching academics in school, and not ideology.

Expand full comment

Your description of how Texas public school is today sounds like what California public school was like when I attended in the 1960s. California was once okay, believe it or not. Almost unrecognizable now. If I had a kid here today, homeschooling would be the only rational option.

I agree - the Energy Bill in the UK is genuinely scary. 'The' science is so apparently 'settled' that parliamentary legislation is now enacted in its name. We have new brimstone and it's thrown by these three-lettered globalist organisations.

Just like with Covid, where there were multiple topics up for debate-- the severity of the virus, the efficacy of masks, the safety and efficacy of vaccines, school closures, and so on-- there are numerous topics that promise to be contentious surrounding climate change (severity, remedies, etc.). Unfortunately, as far as I can tell, a lot of people (or at least the most vicious ones), did not learn anything from the Covid experience, and if anything they saw it is an effective blueprint for shutting down debate. From what I have seen they have sharpened their teeth to attack anything that questions the mainstream narrative.

I listened to the songs by Roisin you posted. I confess they're not really my cup of tea (I'm more into the traditional Irish laments--ha!ha!). I really admire Roisin's initial FB post but HATE that she apologized for such a great comment the next day on X..... DOUBLE BOO!!!! Thank you, Jenny, for this essay, and thank you, also, for helping to keep me abreast of what's going on in the world. I can only handle (psychologically speaking) small amounts of "world news," so I depend upon my Substack subscriptions to help me to know about "important events." What's going on now--the intentional brainwashing of our children--distresses me greatly. And, I agree, these folks who attacked Roisin are nothing more than online bullies. They probably weren't even fans of hers.

Though in this case the abuse is sexual, how much of what goes on in the Trans arena is also related to perverted sexual enjoyment?

An excellent point. I've thought much along those lines when seeing coverage of drag queen story times and brunches, especially one in Texas with a man in drag singing "My Pussy", and lifting the front of his skirt to flip his genitals for the crowd of children, all of whom appear to be under 8, whilst their parents (mostly mothers) look on complacently. This isn't for the entertainment of the children, it is for the sexual gratification of the man performing.

I can't understand it. What are those mothers thinking?

Roisin had every right to be concerned about children being administered these drugs.

The latest research from Finland shows that 80% of children that express a desire to be a different gender grow out it by the time they finish puberty.

Sweden have up to date research that shows kids who medically transition are more likely to commit suicide than those who receive non medical interventions.

We also know that 98% of children and adolescents that are diagnosed with gender dysphoria have a primary diagnosis of either autism or a mental health disorder.

The trans movement is vicious and needs to be investigated. Most of us TERFs now wear the title as a badge of honour, we don't consider it an insult anymore. I think the hostage statement was forced on her by the record label & then they screwed her over anyway.

Expand full comment
author

Yes, I agree re the puberty blockers, and so does Roisin, clearly! I am keen to hear if/when the record company gives an official statement, I don't think they have yet.

Given that she was a disco diva and a popular LGBT act, I think she was genuinely stricken to "hurt" their feelings, my guess is she was not prepared for the venom, and she did not intend for the comment to be public. I would love to know who dobbed her in. Foul behaviour.

Expand full comment

IF she did not intend the comment for publication, then I think you are wasting your breath defending her. J K Rowling is the gold standard to follow here, she stands up and won't be cowed AND she put her money where her mouth was. This is one front in a war that we cannot lose if we wish to retain any semblance of a normal life.

Expand full comment
author

Yeah, I get it. I’m just not prepared to abandon her. Time will tell - and like I said, even if she never speaks publicly again/trashes TERFS, this episode will still have been important.

And while I realise there are many, many people who spoke up with far less resources than Roisin, JK was kind of an outlier in terms of her uncancellable wealth. So she’s the gold standard, yes, but that’s a high bar. I’m sure there are plenty of things that RM can be threatened with that JK wouldn’t think twice about walking away from.

Expand full comment

Come to think of it, I think you are right. It must be really terrifying if you think you are alone and those you thought friends/colleagues turn on you and your livelihood is at risk. Given that I'm not likely to ever be in that situation I being common man living amongst other common men, I am perhaps a bit black and white in that judgement. I doubt I'd find colleagues disagreeing much less turning on me. So good for you. I hope she does find the courage to join JK. As I say elsewhere I do believe this is but one front in a war that IF lost, means we'll never have the freedom that I grew up with and which I never expected to lose.

Dear Jenny,

I had never heard of Roisin Murphy. Even though I’m past listening to this type of music (I still like it mind you, It brings me back to a time gone by in my life)

I do like her voice a lot and I like watching her perform as seen on the videos you posted. I have added her to my playlist In support but little good this will do if artists like her and the many others do not understand nor appreciate that “we” have their backs. That we are standing In support of them not trying to destroy them like the ones they grovel back to.

I am always profoundly disappointed when they (all in the public arena) back pedal, apologize and don’t stand by their convictions. I know, I know they have their careers and livelihoods to think about but dear god, when Is enough enough. Seriously! Their opinions have already been put out there yet some how saying “I really didn’t mean it” fixes it with these crazies. It’s like an elementary school playground. Better say you’re sorry or else!!

I hope you’re right that their will be a day of reckoning but my confidence is damaged. And it’s exactly because of stories like this. In fact maybe “we” should take our support away, cancel her whatever it’s called unless she and the endless list of celebs grow a spine and stays true to their comments.

Maybe we’re the enablers? I just don’t know!

Ps.

Thank you for the important contribution you make and the courage you have to stand by your convictions. I sure do appreciate it.

Also... I wrote this before reading the other comments. I seem to be repeating what’s already been pointed out but here you have my two cents for what it’s worth.

Sincerely,

Kimberly

I am unfamiliar with Róisín Murphy and her music. I hadn't heard of her until this ridiculous accusation of transphobia (what else is new?) broke earlier in the week. I will check out her music, but it doesn't matter whether I love it, loathe it, or fall somewhere in between in my reactions. What matters is doing what's right, standing up for what you believe in, and protecting kids and free speech, free expression, and free listening rights in the public square. The trans- and gender-activists who use social media and other forms of communication to censor, silence, or destroy people for the "crime" of disagreeing with them over any and all matters of (to them) religious dogma are dangerous, anti-democratic bigots (time to turn that word back on them) who refuse to conduct themselves civilly in open societies. They bend and break a host of rules to get their way. They're well-funded narcissists who are harming some of the most vulnerable people on the planet: children. And not just any children: children who in many cases are suffering from various emotional conditions that exacerbate their susceptibility to all sorts of bullying, peer pressure, social manias, fads, emotionally dysfunctional parents, etc. Instead of paying attention to and heeding the current trends in Europe towards delaying medical interventions (that is, the use of puberty blockers, hormones and, eventually, life-altering surgeries with gender-dysphoric kids, rather than counseling and non-medical therapies in order to give youngsters time to mature and be better able to make choices that often are non-reversible), these activists and their allies seem to be in a frightening hurry to do that which can't be later recovered from. Why? So-called gender-affirming treatment, we're told repeatedly, saves trans kids' lives, most specifically preventing many suicides. But where are the reliable data that prove that claim? We're also told that ANY other approach to gender dysphoric children is an attempt to do "conversion therapy," which conjures up nightmares of Christian Fundamentalists camps where kids are psychologically pressured constantly to give up being gay, bi, or lesbian. No gender-skeptics I'm aware of deny the evils of such camps. But we do deny that the sorts of therapies being used in Europe and which used to be common in the US are "conversion therapies" at all. Trying to have a conversation with trans- and gender-activists on that subject is, like so much else that should be routine practice, a thankless task. Instead, we're vilified in many ways and told that "trans lives are not negotiable," a thinly veiled cover for avoiding discussions with one's critics and doubters.

I'm saddened to see anyone capitulate to various kinds of pressure to retract sincerely held beliefs and silence oneself in public. Yet that happens repeatedly around these particular issues. And it's not generally because the advocates have successfully made their case, but because they've been able to intimidate people through various tactics.

It's vital that those of us with objections and questions about the trans- and gender-identity agendas support people like Róisín and anyone else under attack for not simply going along with the mob. We must do everything we can to educate the public and push back at every place the activists are at work. From a leftist, Marxist perspective, that means making alliances with people we might think we have nothing in common with politically. That's a very incorrect and short-sighted belief that fails to ground itself in class interests over the usual "identity politics" that the general public believes all "leftists" to be engaged with. Instead, we have to reach out to people with different political views on many issues but who share the same concerns we bring to this very big one. If we unite and fight together, we will win. And that means winning for countless children and humanity's future.

I agree with everything you say here, except when you get to the part about leftists and Marxists working with their former adversaries to stop this madness. That has about as much chance as a snowball in hell.

Not the people I consider political “mates.” They believe in alliances across the spectrum. And we take plenty of abuse for it. However, any approach without such partnerships on specific issues is likely to lose.

I keep hearing about how "Europe" is slowing or reversing the Trans Agenda but haven't seen compelling evidence this is actually happening, as opposed to appears to be happening under bureaucratese word salad websites -- as in the UK's NIH website where it lays out some recent change in gender healthcare. It's difficult to tell from their website whether changes have actually occurred or whether they are being contemplated through a process of bureaucratic red tape -- not to mention we need specifics on how *exactly* they are supposedly curtailing the gender agenda to minors. In lieu of this necessary information, we get various random people (some more or less well-known) in the Alt Sphere making the claim, but never providing actual evidence. When I confronted one such recently on substack, she put me through the runaround with that infuriating phrase "go Google it" that makes me want to strangle the person with piano wire.

Thanks for this - especially your conclusion! I am a proud supported of rights for girls and women, the maintenance of integrity of sport for females, and protecting children from the horrors of transgenderism treatments. Given that studies in Sweden (where medical records are exhaustive and kept cradle to grave) show an increase in suicide of children given "gender affirming" hormonal treatment and surgery, how could anyone advocate for this insanity? Do they truly hate children so much that they want them to suffer and die? Parents presenting toddlers as transgender are presenting as Munchausen's by proxy and should be treated as such. I will be sharing this article.

"Do they truly hate children so much that they want them to suffer and die?" I mean, yes, but I doubt they see it that way. They want to be part of a crusade so badly they will turn off all of their common sense and their moral compass and actively harm their children -- who they have zero ability to relate to in any normal fashion -- it's truly terrifying. I hate to think of what the fall out is going to look like.
