Frens โ I saw something recently that a fellow Substacker posted on Notes (which if you donโt use, you should start immediately) that said something shockingly simple. He โ or she, I donโt remember โ made a point of sending out monthly request for subscription upgrades. Wow! I thoughtโฆthat makes sense. I should just ask, and then ask again at polite intervals.
So hereโs a reminder of what a paid subscription (starting at ยฃ5 or about $7 a month) gets you:
Online meet-ups
Occasional special essays and/or video chats with interesting people (for example, Iโm thinking of doing one with my husband for paid subs only)
Access to the chat.
My aim is to do a monthly online meet-up, but last time I scheduled one no-one showed up ๐ฌ. Well, one person did and it was actually great getting to know this womanโs backstory and chat for a full hour. I really enjoyed it. So Iโm not complaining, but it did throw me off a bit.
So Iโm announcing the next chat will be Saturday 25 January, at 6pm UK time. If you send me a chat message to RSVP, I will send you a link right before the appointed hour.
The more people in the paid sub community, the more vibrant that community becomes. I look to Louise Perryโs Maiden Mother Matriarch community for inspiration. If you would like a similar feature here on Saving Culture, help me build it.
And for the newcomers here โ Iโve had about a hundred new sign-ups this month! โ here is a video I recorded last spring explaining what Saving Culture is all about.
And โ in honour of Inauguration Day Eve โ here are some fun election-related memes I collected last year.
I, too, am going to try REALLY hard to be there (my time, EST, 1 p.m.; your time, UK, 6 p.m.). I just now wrote it down on my old-fashioned calendar which hangs on a wall in the kitchen (when things make it on to that calendar, they're official--ha!ha!).
Oh my God! The last meme! Iโm choking on my wine! ๐
