Wishing you a safe and happy holiday season
My gift to you is this must-watch hilarious Christmas tale, and a slightly odd Christmas playlist!
Happy winter solstice! 🥳
I love the month of December. It’s a month when I feel beauty and magic all around me: from the ancient marking of the year’s shortest day to the cheesy pop Christmas tunes of 1950’s Americana. I love the golden glow and low light of the sun — when it peeps out from behind the winter clouds that sit heavy in these northern skies — I love the fiery sunsets, and I love the twinkly Christmas lights that brighten up those long nights.
I love Christmas and the story of Jesus’s birth that we celebrate. Even though I remain quite secular, Christmas is the only time when I can feel the spirit of a redeemer and saviour, as we hunker down with our loved ones to eat and drink and be merry to close out the year.
My brain has officially gone into hibernation, it will reawaken to welcome in the New Year.
Thank you all for welcoming my newsletters into your no doubt overcrowded mailboxes this year.
As a token of my appreciation, please enjoy this very short, very cute video of my old friend Truman (who I wrote about in the spring following his death at age 108), telling us a Christmas tale, back in 2016.
And this off-the-beaten track Christmas playlist I made last year.
Have a safe and happy holiday season everyone, where ever you are in the world.
