Goodbye and good luck to RFK, Jr, who almost had me there for a second
Thank you for reminding me that liberal's tolerance of the intolerable is a feature, not a bug, of their worldview
When Joe Biden was picked to win the Democratic primary in 2020, I vowed I would never vote for a Democrat again. I concede that this is a somewhat hollow vow, as I live overseas and therefore do not vote in local elections. But I was so disgusted by the Biden family grift and the establishment and media collusion that enabled it, that I decided Jesus Christ himself could run for president with a D next to his name, and I’d be all like, nah.
So when RFK, Jr. started his full court press to win over disaffected libs like myself, I was annoyed at how tempting I found him. Now — before anyone starts penning a long comment about his supposedly dubious vaccine stance — I am not a vaccine voter. I simply cannot adjudicate that issue on its merits, so I work with what I do know, which is that the Pharma lobby has way too much power over governments everywhere, and the Covid vaccine mandates were a grotesque violation of personal sovereignty the likes of which we have never seen before. So I’m inclined to support the anti-vaxxers on principle, if not on the specifics, because they provide a much-needed balance to the overweening power of the pharma-government-media complex.
At heart, I’m a total sucker for the underdog and the outsider, so RFK appealed to me. My populist sympathies were activated by his Instagram reels from community gardens in low-income black neighbourhoods, in which he talked about access to nutritious foods; and from the picket lines outside fancy LA hotels, where he stood in solidarity with Latina chambermaids. This all appealed to me so much, in fact, that it didn’t bother me when he voiced his support for affirmative action. Even though I don’t support race-based affirmative action, his stance seemed genuine and people are allowed to disagree. It’s not a deal-breaker issue for me. Plus, I was very interested in his thoughts on the national security apparatus and moved by his description of his family as having had a decades long fist-fight with the CIA. His pecs weren’t bad to look at, either. I was a little starry eyed, I’ll admit.
Then last week, this happened. (The Tweet links to a short video of the interaction in question.)
And just like that, my brief love affair with Bobby Jr. came to a screeching halt.
I don’t feel like I need to elaborate on why this was such an epic fuck up on RFK’s part, unless of course his goal was to reassure the Democratic base that he’s not a MAGA guy, then I guess it was not a fuck up at all. But to me, it was the final nail in the coffin of my belief that anyone on the liberal-left side of the aisle is redeemable, politically speaking.
The sight of Kennedy kowtowing to a man who absolutely epitomises middle class gay male entitlement, and throwing a bunch of women under the bus in order to do so, pushed me very close to burning anger.
“Extremist group” Moms For Liberty campaigns against having books in school libraries that show little boys giving other little boys blow jobs. They do not campaign to repeal gay marriage, as that dude claimed. In fact, there is a growing number of gay men and women who agree with their advocacy. So as a mother myself, I’ve had about enough of the type of gay man who wants to throw around his sexual preference as a special, quasi-religious status that strangely often dovetails with exposing children to adult sexual activities.
To be clear, I’m not saying that the man in the town hall is in favour of showing children dick pics in school text books. In fact, I’ll be charitable and assume that he has no idea that children are being served up porn in schools across America (and the UK.) He’s a Dem apparatchik, so of course he swims in the propaganda than says any slight correction away from total sexual freedom at all times, for all gay men, no matter where their desire takes them, is literally the same as rounding up gays and sending them to camps. But the tone he used in his question of Kennedy was one of such unbounded entitlement, and in response Kennedy folded so quickly, that I felt a female protective fury build up in me faster than a creep can say ‘hey kid, want some candy?’
At least RFK, Jr had the stones not to “denounce” the group, as the sexual aristocrat demanded he do. “I’m not going to issue a denunciation, I’m telling you right now I’m not going to agree with anyone who says we shouldn’t respect gay rights.”
But it was too little, too late for me.
This is not the 1980’s any more, and it seems no one on the left side of the aisle has realised that. What rights are gays missing, exactly? Liberals total commitment to tying themselves to “gay rights,” when “gay rights” is inching ever closer to “child sexual abuse” is not something I can accept or tolerate. Liberal leaders are forcing women everywhere into a choice between the sexual desires of men and the safety and innocence of children. That is not even a hard call for me. I will gladly abandon liberalism altogether, rather than shrug off the mass sexualisation of children that is occurring in mainstream society.
This is a feature, not a bug, in the liberal worldview. Their tolerance of the intolerable extends to them all, from the patently corrupt and sinister Biden’s to the enticingly wholesome Bobby Jr.
I am unsettled by this, because I cannot discern what will replace liberalism in terms of safeguarding privacy and personal sovereignty, which are two very important principles for me - almost as important as protecting children. How — and if — we can maintain a free sexual culture without it descending into the current Sodom and Gomorrah of the digital age, is a vexing question. Can’t there be a happy medium? Judging by contemporary culture, the answer is no. Are the liberal-progressive-left really blind to the frightening implications of this?
But I have been saved from being tricked into thinking that perhaps a liberal knight in shining armour was possible — it is not. And I have RFK, Jr to thank for that. Yet another reminder, in this cynical game, there are no heroes.
A great number of those "liberal politicians" doing the forcing are women.
There's no way around this. Women, not men, are largely responsible for mandating trans uber alles. It's a fact. Yep. Even when that means they make other women and children unsafe by making society friendly to predatory male troons.
Liberal women did this. And liberal gay men. I was one of those liberal gay men, and I bear responsibility for my former participation. But liberal women vastly outnumber us.
It is women in schools and institutions and in the home that are doing this to children.
Brilliantly said, as usual. I miss the days when I could just disagree with someone, without thinking they are evil or baths.t crazy.
