Welcome to the Cronecast

We've got fun and games...

I missed my usual Friday deadline last week — as it was a week in which both my partner and myself had serious near-misses in our cars and a health scare of the kind that makes you truly, deeply grateful for every breath you draw. We are all fine and well at the end of it. It was a week of miracles and I’m considering taking up religion because of it.

So the days were taken up with the minutia of life and I did not have the mental bandwith, as the kids say, to sit and write.

But I do have something I really want to share!

It’s a little project myself and Jodi Shaw have been working on, a weekly (or nearly weekly) recorded phone call. Have a listen! We cover a wide — an odd — variety of topics. Jodi, in her Substack Diary of a Dissident, gives a write-up here. (You should subscribe to the whole newsletter, btw, it’s very interesting.)

We have called it Cronecast, and even though older women might scoff that we are too young to be claiming such a mantle (or maybe I’m deluding myself), we have been through a lot and whatever depth and gift of sight we possess, we have earned. The hard way.

A Letter to my Friend

Jodi writes:

“I mean, I’m no dummy, but your lens is so different from mine. I love traversing the geography of your mind; it’s like taking a ride on a heat-seeking missile powered by an extremely smooth bullshit detector. Every time we speak on the phone (usually at 2am my time / 7am your time) I say to myself: “damn, we should record this!”

So here we go, two Gen X lassies entering the phase of life where the intensity of motherhood gives way to wisdom.

With tongues of gold and balls of steel, I hereby officially baptize us as crones.

And we damn well earned it, girl.
