A very important Tweet that you all must read
It links together the trans ideology, queer theory, critical race theory and finally, critical theory. Even Billy Bragg approved!
A few weeks ago, I saw an exchange on Twitter that was the perfect summation of our current cultural crisis. It involved Billy Bragg, whose music I once enjoyed but who has turned into the absolute worst that the cultural left has to offer. He’s gone so far as to question if women should be allowed to say whatever they want, such is his deranged understanding of equality and justice.
“Do women get a free pass to say whatever they want when discussing their rights? Would you oppose an anti-abortionist woman if she came to your town to argue that women should have fewer rights?” He asked on Twitter on 3 March.
Um, yes Billy, I’m afraid so. We actually get to say whatever the hell we want. Crazy, I know.
Even though I am familiar with this level of left-wing authoritarianism (which I do not remember coming from the right when I was younger, by the way) it still shocks me every time I see it. Just like every time I see a TikTok-er talking about pronouns, or every time I see a Tweet of a man in a dress claiming he could steal my husband, and even though I’ve been watching this unfold for years and have a pretty clear understanding of the agendas at play, it still shocks me on a visceral level that produces a mixture of anxiety, rage and hopelessness. And that’s the entire point.
It’s very, very, very important to realise that this is not an organic phenomenon. It is not an extension of the battle for equality under the law that women and gays fought for from the 1960’s onwards. This is a psychological war in which our minds are the battlefield, and that war aims to reshape our minds so it can reshape human existence and polity.
Enter my favourite Tweet of all time.
“If trans falls, that means queer theory falls. If queer theory falls, then critical race theory falls. And if critical race theory falls, then all critical theory falls. They are all set up in a row. All it takes is the force of about 65+percent of a population finally fed up enough.”
This isn’t exactly a revelation, but it’s put so succinctly it acts as one. It makes very clear why trans identities suddenly became a neo-religion. And the only reason I saw it at all is because Mr. Bragg, that great warrior for The People, retweeted it to explain why, as he said, “it is imperative that we defend the rights of trans and non-binary people.”
The trans prong of this pitchfork of hideousness is possibly the most important, because pretty much everyone on earth is a sexed person, whether they like it or not, and sex, love, identity and belonging are usually the primary concerns of young people. Where critical race theory may have huge resonance in, say the United States and some uptake in the UK and Europe, due to the history of colonialism and the indulgent nature of those societies, it may not make such inroads in other societies less saturated with prosperity guilt. So we have the gender hobgoblins coming in from a separate flank, to make sure that our every human’s most fundamental category — male or female — is destabilised and then destroyed.
And that is where we are today. The successful nesting of the trans with the L and the G has made it an absolute third rail that most liberals cannot bring themselves to criticise.
In a 2019 report written by global law firm Denton’s — in conjunction with The Thomson Reuters Foundation and a group called the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer and Intersex Youth & Student Organisation — the push to de-sex and therefore dehumanise young people is made helpfully explicit.
The report’s stated aim is to — among other things — “eliminate the minimum age requirement” to switching genders legally. “Where legal recognition procedures require prior medical treatment or investigation, these are often available at the age of maturity and thus discriminate based on the age of the applicant. In other cases, where there is no medical requirement, minors are barred from legal recognition unless they have parental authorisation. This remains a huge hurdle for young trans people who are yet to reach the age of maturity.”
Ironically, the report lays a claim to the “right to development of the child,” but what they mean is parents should be prosecuted if they stand in the way of their child being trans-ed. “States should take action against the parents who are obstructing the free development of a young trans person’s identity.”
In an introduction written by a trans person from Iceland, the report states: “children and teenagers need to be allowed to define themselves however it suits them, both in social and legal terms. Allowing youth to change their gender marker is therefore a human right they should be afforded.”
Among the best practices the trans activists recommend to achieve this goals are target youth politicians, use human rights as “a campaign point,”and “use case studies of real people.” But there are three in particular that are an indication that the activists understand their agenda is actually rather unpopular. They recommend stepping in, “early in the legislative process and ideally before it has even started. This will give them far greater ability to shape the government agenda.”
“If they intervene after the government has already started to develop its own proposal…the ultimate gender recognition legislation may be far less progressive than activists would like.” Because no one in the right mind would suggest that minors should be allowed to simply declare themselves the opposite sex. People in positions of influence have to be coerced or indoctrinated into such a position.
The report goes on: “tie your campaign to more popular reform,” specifically gay marriage. “This provided a veil of protection, particularly in Ireland, where marriage equality was strongly supported, but gender identity remained a more difficult issue to win public support for.”
And in a particularly chilling recommendation, they say: “avoid excessive press coverage and exposure. “In certain countries, like the UK, information on legal gender recognition reforms has been misinterpreted in the mainstream media, and opposition has arisen as a result….In Ireland, activists have directly lobbied individual politicians and tried to keep press coverage to a minimum in order to avoid this issue.”
As James Kirkup wrote in the Spectator in Dec. 2019 (an article which I happened upon the other day, which lead me to reading the whole Denton report):
A major international law firm has helped write a lobbying manual for people who want to change the law to prevent parents having the final say about significant changes in the status of their own children. That manual advises those lobbying for that change to hide their plans behind a ‘veil’ and to make sure that neither the media nor the wider public know much about the changes affecting children that they are seeking to make. Because if the public find out about those changes, they might well object to them.
Indeed. If people were fully aware of the darkness that lies at the heart of this issue, the only people who support it would be the predators. As it stand now, they are being protected by the dangerously naive.
Back to the tweet: it’s of the utmost importance to see the links between these ideologies. The trans issue is an existential prerequisite to those who want to reorder society according to their delusional and dark understanding of humanity. Because they understand that by destroying the youth, they will destroy the future.
You (Jenny) get stronger every day. We’re not just saving culture from itself - we’re saving it from the “realkulture” that has suffocated it.
We’ve understood “realpolitik” since Otto Avon Bismarck, the late 1800s. According to the Financial Times, realpolitik is “politics about power, about maneuvering coalitions, about social forces and their capacity to influence politics, and about the power of ideas in shaping political possibilities.”
Realpolitik is leaving ideals, morals and ethics behind, in favor of power. Realpolitik justifies *anything* - lockdowns, war, unlimited destruction - in pair of its voracious hunger for power.
I’d suggest that realkuture is simply the same thing, but spawning in the culture.
I love this essay and it was awesome meeting you in NY. I find the leftist push to infect everything with trans ideology to be the most destructive and disturbing phenomenon- it makes me feel completely crazy. I just CANNOT believe that this is where we are as a society.
